Confusion in Ekiti town as goat is delivers human-like baby goat [PHOTO]

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the incident, which occurred in Lori Oke settlement, a village that is about 10 kilometres from Ogotun town, drew the attention of hundreds of residents and travellers.
The spokesman of the community, Sunday Ogunmeji, who spoke with NAN correspondent on behalf of the Baale (community head), Ganiyu Adetoun, said a pastor, Mr Daniel Odedele, helped to deliver the goat of the baby.
“After watching the goat labour for several hours, the pastor took pity on it and courageously pulled the baby out, only for it to turn out to be human-like.
“The `baby’ had all the features of a human being such as human face, head, hair, female genitals, two legs and two arms with hoofs.
“However, the human-like baby died at about noon as a result of lack of care as the crowd merely trooped there to watch rather than to attempt to save its life,’’ Ogunmeji said.
A resident, Mr Saidi Oladepo, who is a commercial motorcycle (Okada) operator, told NAN that immediately the goat delivered the `human-like baby’, it took to its heels.
He said that as soon as members of the community got wind of the incident, they ran helter-skelter in apparent confusion.
He said alarm was raised and the local security agents, referred to as `Peace Corps’, were alerted to the incident.
Oladepo added that it took more than two hours to re-capture the goat in the bush.
The traditional ruler of Ogotun-Ekiti, Oba Samuel Oyebode, could not be reached for comment as he was said to be in a meeting of the Traditional Council. (NAN)

Opinion: ASUU please, don’t you dare to embark on any ‘supplementary’ strike

Today, it is clearly obvious that Nigerians have developed an unusual likeness for supplements. Every day, you either here of a supplementary this or supplementary that. If it is not the presidency sending another budget to supplement the one it had earlier sent to the National Assembly,….
For most of us Nigerians living in the country including foreigners who are vexed in Nigeria’s political culture, that joke about our President telling the Secretary to the Government of the Federation to set up a committee with a charge to look into the issue of too many existing committees in the country, is merely stating the obvious. That is Nigeria for you. Our ways are quite unique to us.
For instance, it is common-place to see our motorists freely making N20 donations to policemen at every checkpoint. Or, don’t you enjoy it when you’re asked at the police station to settle counter after trekking there to report a robbery incident that happened in your house the previous night where you lost all your valuables?
If you’re already wondering how all these connect to the title of this article, it doesn’t. They’re just meant to get you to begin to reason along with me as a fellow Nigerian, because I am very sure at the end of your reading, you’ll definitely join me in begging ASUU not to embark in some supplementary strike after this long tiring one, as Nigerians have the penchant for abusing laid down patterns.
By way of definition, a supplement will make more sense to you if you can take your mind back to the last time you ate out in a local joint. That extra plate half the price of the original meal you ask for, probably because the food taste so good or you just needed to fill your stomach, is an example of a supplement.
Today, it is clearly obvious that Nigerians have developed an unusual likeness for supplements. Every day, you either here of a supplementary this or supplementary that. If it is not the presidency sending another budget to supplement the one it had earlier sent to the National Assembly, it will be our universities giving supplementary admission to some few special candidates after it has announced closure of all admission.
Recently however, the issue of supplement was taken over the board when INEC, in line with our culture of adding extras, declared its final decision to conduct a supplementary election in Anambra state to add to the number of results they have already collated despite the complaints made by the governorship candidates of PDP, the APC, Labour party, public analysts, as well as a cross section of Anambra women who protested to the state headquarters of INEC that the Nov. 16 governorship elections in the state be cancelled for failing to meet set standards.
Even though you consider the Anambra electoral imbroglio as none of your business since you are not an Anambrarian or not interested in Nigerian political discuss, you certainly must be worried about the four months old ASUU strike which despite the several meetings the federal government has had with the leadership of the Union and the show of commitment by President Goodluck Jonathan to see that students and lecturers return to classes, it appears from an insider source, the Union is poised at embarking on further supplementary strikes.
Making this disclosure is no other person than the faction leader of ASUU, UNILAG branch, Dr. Adeyemi Daramola, who alleged that ASUU leadership has perfected plans to end the on-going strike by mid-January 2013. As such, even if the Federal Government meet all the demands of ASUU today, the Union will still pass a resolution to embark on some weeks of supplementary strike till January just like INEC will be conducting supplementary elections soon in Anambra state.
If this is true, then we mustn’t blame ASUU leadership who is merely following Nigeria’s culture of supplementing everything, nor should we brand the acts of the authorities of EBSU, ESUT, AAUA, UNILAG, LASU and UNIJOS who are only but mimicking the rebellious attitude of the new PDP and the G-7 Governors who have announced their defection to the APC.

2 Nigerian men have been arrested by police in India on suspicion of fraud

2 Nigerian men have been arrested by police in India on suspicion of fraud.
Patrick Okwuokenye and Festus Iteh were apprehended after it was alleged that they duped three persons of a total sum of N12.43 million (about Rs 49 lakh.

The Telegraph reports:

Sharma said a complaint by one Mahender Patel to the police on October 28 led to their arrest.
Patel had complained that a woman called Asha Kiran told him and two others that she was going to receive USD 20 million as lottery prize and would give them 2.5 per cent of the amount if they paid her the N12.43 million which she had to deposit as processing fee for the prize money.
Asha Kiran had received an e-mail stating that she had won a lottery of USD 20 million.
“After she responded to the e-mail, the accused asked her to deposit some money as ‘processing fee’. She told Patel about this, who along with two others paid her Rs 49 lakh. Out of this, she transferred Rs 15.5 lakh to various accounts set up by the accused,” said Sharma.
A person called Michael, also a Nigerian, who is believed to be the ringleader, is yet to traced, he added.

Power generation drops by 450MWz, this cld be annoying

Don't Miss

Power generation drops by 450MW

By on November 26, 2013
Electricity generation has dropped by 450 megawatts, the Transmission Company of Nigeria has said.
The firm said the drop on Saturday was due to vandalism of pipelines supplying gas to the Okpai Power Plant in Delta State.
The plant, it said, was shut down as a result of the reported vandalism, adding that the development would warrant power rationing across the country for four days.
The firm said in a statement signed by its General Manager, Public Affairs, Mrs. Seun Olagunju, that repair works on the plant were expected to be completed within three days.
“Okpai Power Plant will expectedly resume generation on Wednesday, November 27, 2013,” it said.
A senior official from the Ministry of Power told our correspondent on Sunday that fluctuations in power generation might persist for a while because the new power firms owners’ were still settling down to manage the sector.
The official, who did not want to be named, explained that although the recent drop in generation was due to gas pipeline vandalism, most of the investors had yet to fully comprehend how the system works.
The official said, “We may continue to experience a drop in power and this will lead to poor supply in some areas because the investors are still in the process of knowing how to efficiently run the business. This may take time, but in due course, things will take shape.”
Despite the takeover of power firms by private investors since November 1, 2013, the country has continued to experience poor electricity supply.
Although the investors have explained that development in the sector would take time, electricity consumers are expecting a quick positive transformation in the power business.
Last week, residents in various states complained that power supply across the country had remained poor. They described this as a source of worry because they expected a steady improvement of the situation with the entry of the private investors.
The Presidential Task Force on Power put the power generation at 3,600.90MW as of November 20, 2013.

“Why is everybody beefing you Toke?” Uti Nwachukwu mocks Toke Makinwa on stage

Last night, media personality, Uti Nwachukwu while hosting the ELOY awards which held in Lagos, mocked OAP and Vlogger Toke Makinwa.
Uti who is well known for his ‘party-going skills’ acknowledged the fact that Toke Makinwa has taken over – she attends almost all the celebrity parties in Lagos and fans are beginning to mock her for that.
“Everybody is beefing you Toke. Why? You see, before Toke came on the scene, I was the most beefed celebrity for attending so many events, but now, whenever I go to event these days, I pray to God that Toke attends too, so I won’t be insulted alone…since she came around, the hate on me has lessened because finally there is someone who attends more events than me.” Uti jokingly said.
On realizing that Toke and her fiance, Maje Ayida were not finding the joke funny, Uti immediately tried to cover up, saying “Toke don’t mind them, they are hating because you are successful and doing well” He further said “You have a sexy man by your side who many ladies wish they had.”
Well, the last statement made Toke smile coyly but Maje Ayida didn’t stop frowning at Uti.

Terrible: Woman arrested for strangling her son and dumping him in a river

A woman who brought a child into the world allegedly decided to take it out again after only 2 days of it being born.

The 23 year old mother was arrested by operatives of the Benue State Police Command after it was revealed that she had allegedly killed her newborn son.

The suspect, Joy Iember Iorzua, is reported to have strangled the baby and dumped his body in River Ujiiragbo, in the Gwer Local Government Area of the state.

Vanguard reports:

Saturday Vanguard gathered that the suspect was arrested at Mbasa-Mbakine Gee council ward by members of the vigilante group operating in the community who handed her over to the Police in Aliade, the local government headquarters.

According to our source, the suspect who lived along Ayua-Num street, in Aliade town, was delivered of the baby a week ago and two days later, she allegedly strangled the innocent baby to death.

”After killing the baby, she wrapped his remains in a polythene bag, put him in a carton and dumped it at the popular UjiiragboRiver.

”The dastardly killing was however exposed when members of the vigilante group on patrol in the area, got wind of her action and her intention to escape from the community for fear of being apprehended.

”They trailed and arrested her after which angry members of her community descended heavily on her before handing her over to the Police at Aliade.
”The truth is that this is not the first time this type of allegation is being leveled against her, and that was what prompted the angry reaction of the people who were outraged by her action”.

When contacted, the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, for Aliade, Suprintendent of Police Bitrus Madani who confirmed the arrest, disclosed however that the suspect had been transferred to the state command headquarters for further interrogation.

Madani who expressed dismay at the increasing crime wave in the local government area vowed that the Police would not relent in its task of ensuring the safety of lives and property of the people in the area.

latest on ASUU strike: FG is a failure – Union vows to continue protest

ASUU strike: FG is a failure – Union vows to continue protest

By Ameh Comrade Godwin on October 9, 2013

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has declared that it has lost confidence in the ability of the Federal Government to resolve the ongoing face-off between its body and the Federal government.

ASUU Chairman, Comrade Anthony Monye-Emina who stated this in a brief chat with journalist at the University of Benin vowed that the Union must continue with the strike to achieve its desired purpose.

He said the Union had lost faith in the Federal Government, having failed to remain committed to the terms of the agreement it entered into with the government as far back as 1999.

According to him, one of the reasons they are insisting that their demands must be met is because the government initially denied the existence of the 2009 agreement which was signed by its officials.

“We can no longer trust government; we have lost faith in its willingness to deliver on the issues that led to the strike in the first place,” he said.

Speaking further, Emina called on the Federal Government to find a permanent solution to the impasse so students could return to school.

North will survive if Nigeria breaks up, says Aliyu

Niger State Governor Babangida Aliyu said yesterday that the North will survive in case of a breakup of the country.
The region, he declared, is not afraid of being on its own as he warned against statements that suggest that the country is heading for a breakup.
“If Nigeria splits, the north can still survive on its own contrary to the belief of some people in other regions that the north cannot survive if the nation disintegrates,” the Chairman of the Northern States Governors’ Forum (NSGF), stated yesterday.
He spoke during a meeting in Minna with members of the House of Representatives Committee on Petroleum Resources (Downstream) in his office.
Aliyu cited some countries in Africa that had disintegrated in recent past, noting that such countries have not gone into extinction rather they have survived and are waxing stronger.
“No community in Nigeria should be afraid of separation. If some people want to go, they should go, we will survive. We are not scared of separation,” he said
“The same was said of Niger Republic. Niger was the poorest country in the world but today, if you see oil in Kano, Kaduna, Sokoto and Maiduguri, it would have come from Niger Republic.
“There is no way Niger and Chad can have oil and improve their economy and the north will not be able to do the same”, Aliyu boasted.
Although he did not say so, it was believed that Aliyu was responding to threats by ex-militant and Southsouth leader, Alhaji Asari Dokubo that the nation would disintegrate in 2015 if President Goodluck Jonathan is not re-elected.

Boy, 9, sneaks onto flight to Las vegas unnoticed and without ticket

A flight to America’s so-called adult playground, Las Vegas, had an unusual passenger last week: a 9-year-old boy, traveling alone and apparently without a boarding pass.

Officials are trying to figure out how he got through security — let alone on the flight.

The Transportation Security Administration is investigating.

Patrick Hogan, a spokesman for Minneapolis St. Paul International Airport, said that during the flight, the crew “became suspicious of the child’s circumstances.”

They then got in touch with authorities and turned the boy over to Child Protective Services in Nevada, Hogan said in a statement.

“Fortunately, the flight crew took appropriate actions to ensure the child’s safety, so the story does have a good ending,” he said.

Delta said it takes “the incident very seriously and working with authorities.”

The boy traveled Thursday on flight 1651, a 757 from Minneapolis to Las Vegas.

The airline spells out its policy on children flying solo plainly on their website.

Kids between the ages of 5 and 14 may travel alone as part of the unaccompanied minor program. Someone from Delta pays special attention to the children, walks them on board, shows them their seats and even introduces them to the cockpit crew, time permitting, Delta says, adding, “kids love this part.”

Airport officials reviewed security footage and don’t think the child had a ticket, CNN affiliate KARE reported.

The boy spent a good amount of time at the airport before boarding the plane, KARE said.

He was there the day before, the station reported, citing airport officials. He passed his time by taking luggage from a carousel, bringing it to an airport eatery and then ditching it, asking a server to watch the bag “while he went to the restroom.”

Yet the potential red flags of a nine-year-old, traveling alone and leaving unattended luggage failed to trigger any action.

The following day the child took the train to the airport, cleared security and nearly made it to Las Vegas without detection.

“Obviously, the fact that the child’s actions weren’t detected until he was in flight is concerning,” Hogan wrote. Still 33 million people travel through Minneapolis’ airport every year, he noted. “I don’t know of another instance in my 13 years at the airport in which anything similar has happened,” he said

Guidelines on making good investment decisions

Running a successful business means having to make tough financial decisions. ADEMOLA ALAWIYE highlights some guidelines to be considered in making such decisions.

Sometimes it’s hard to predict the outcome of your decisions, more so if you don’t have a great deal of experience in that particular area. Although it is practically impossible for one to be 100 per cent infallible in predicting a good or bad investment, it is possible to narrow down the playing field by following basic principles while investing.

Experts note that this will help beginning or advanced investors to ensure a margin of error when investing their funds for a good return earning. It is therefore important for an investor to adopt the basic principles of making good investment decisions if he wishes to trim his risks and make considerable progress in his venture.

Business professionals say whether it is cheap insurance, good insurance or just plain savings bonds, in today’s unstable economy, one cannot ever be 100 per cent certain in investing. They, however, note that choosing wisely will definitely be an asset in achieving success or avoiding financial disaster and cutting risks. Below are simple tips to making excellent investment decisions in an unstable economy.

Take enough time to think

At the moment, Nigeria’s economy is unstable and harsh to businesses. Businessmen, in separate interviews, often complain of the unfriendly economic policies which they have to contend with in order to survive. As a result, they note that whoever wishes to invest in Nigeria must take enough time to think through what venture he plans to dabble into.

Investing in one’s future is definitely not something to just plunge into without a careful thought and consideration. Experts say the lightening-fast nature of the Internet is conducive and geared towards convincing surfers to make quick and impetuous decisions. Consequently, this fact needs to be on one’s mind continuously before making any investment decision as any error might be regretted. Of course, no one loves to regret in business.

How much risk can you take?

You should know how much risk you are willing to tolerate in whatever business you do. Knowing the difference between an average savings/money market account and investment vehicles which form part of a portfolio is vitally important when making successful investment decisions, experts say. So, as an investor, are you ready to take risks? The Managing Director, Silex Limited, Mr. Steve Obong, says that calculated risks should be taken in business to succeed. According to him, every form of investment has its associated risks, and any investor should be ready to undertake such risks, but shrewdly.

Never give up easily

Do not succumb to pressure in business. You must understand that every business has its own pressure and it is not wise to give up easily after encountering some challenges.

Generally, families, friends and the shoe-shine boy on the street will all offer financial advice. Most of it will not be qualified, expert advice. Most of them will know of a cheap insurance policy, promising stock or a well-performing company that has good future potential. Whatever they may advise or try to push, in order to avoid bad investments, it is crucial for a person not to succumb to outside pressure. Put in your best and be wise.

Undertake detailed research before investing

Experts advise that in today’s highly volatile economic environment, it is necessary to carefully research into a particular financial vehicle which carries out one’s financial goals the most. Meticulously checking out the specific investment offers, competitive offers from other sources and how well the investment is performing is a crucial prerequisite. You should ensure a detailed research before investing in any form of venture.

Also important is to painstakingly research the reputation, integrity and track record of the financial institution offering the investment. Experts say this is just as important as the investment itself. Some of the basic tips for this include taking the time to implement a savings and/or an investment plan with a diversified portfolio; determining how much risk one is willing to assume: research which investments are insured, non-secured and/or low-risk; and never bow to friendly advice if it does not adhere to your short, medium or long-range goals.

Are you adventurous?

The Managing Consultant, Beatrex Consultants, Mrs. Beatrice Okolie, says many of our entrepreneurs want to sit in a place and expect things to work out fine. She notes that you must have a dream and that dream must influence your entrepreneurial vision. She says, “The moment you have that dream, you should understand that it doesn’t come easy, you must drive it. What do I mean by driving it? It is not going to be easy. So, how do you as an entrepreneur identify your priority? Even in the face of making it, when the returns begin to come in, how do you determine your priority? Do you forget where you are coming from? What informs your taste? You have to be adventurous. When people talk of lack of funds, I laugh. You see, when you talk of lack of funds, I see it as the least of all your problems. The idea that you want to develop as an entrepreneur is key and paramount.”

She explains that one needs to diagnose the efficacy, relevance, workability and feasibility of one’s idea. She states that these are the issues that many entrepreneurs tend to push aside and they begin to talk about the issue of funds. “People talk about issues of policy and infrastructure, but these are only essential and secondary, they are not primary,” she adds. She notes that as an entrepreneur, one must have the drive and understand one’s dream and idea.

She says, “Why are you in this business? Can you explain or is it because your brother, sister, or uncle is doing it? No! If you go into business because of that, you have messed up everything and your problem starts from there. So, when you have gotten your idea right, you can now talk of money or funding.”

‘Solidarity forever’ – NUPENG accuses government of being insensitive to ASUU, gears up for solidarity strike

The wave of strikes that has hit the country might just assume tidal status as yet another organization has disclosed its plans to embark on an industrial action.

In solidarity with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), the Nigerian Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) has said that it will embark on a strike of its own in support of the university body unless the Federal Government fulfills its part of the agreement that was signed by both parties.

NUPENG, through its National President Igwe Achese, said that the FG was unperturbed by the situation because none of the leaders’ children was attending any of the affected schools.

Chuddy101 presenter report that:

NUPENG President, Igwe Achese, while speaking at the Union’s National Administrative Council, NAC, meeting, in Lagos, expressed worry over the state of Nigerian universities.

He said government’s failure to respect agreements had resulted to strikes in different sectors of the Nigerian system since the inception of 2013.

He said, “We appeal to government to implement agreement reached with ASUU so that students can go back to school. If the crisis in the sector is not resolved, we will soon direct our members to embark on solidarity strike.”

Blaming the Ministry of Labour over the ongoing saga, he said, “The Ministry of Labour needs to be proactive if we must get these issues nipped in the bud. The ministry also needs to make sure that agreements reached or communiqué signed are implemented.

“The Ministry has a big role to play to avert strikes in the country. When unions begin to lose faith in the ministry that is when we have this kind of crisis. The Labour mMinister should be firm in making sure that the right decisions are taken.

“As it is now, every activity in the Ministry of Labour is in the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, which ought not to be so. The role of the SGF should be to intervene only when the need arises.”

Drama as reptile enters femi kuti’s car on lagos third mainland bridge

Drama ensued at the third mainland bridge over the weekend when a crowd gathered around the car of legendary Afrobeat King, Femi Kuti, to locate a Lizard that almost caused him an accident.

Narrating his ordeal, Kuti, who arrived late to the MUSON Center, where he was a guest artiste at the pre-event press briefing on the coming MUSON anniversary concert, described the experience as horrifying.

He said the lizard appeared all of a sudden, from the dashboard of the car, while he was at top speed, starring at him snappily before ducking away..

“You know, it could have been a disaster if the lizard had run through my trousers, climbing to my private part. You can imagine how jumpy I could have reacted, trying to protect my manhood. Because, that to me is an important part of who I am, I can’t joke with it. Evil people could be at work,” added the musician jocularly, still wondering how the lizard got into his car.”

After the event, Femi insisted he will not drive the jeep till the Lizard was found!
